You asked and we’re here to help. Don’t worry.
Measuring for curtains requires accuracy to ensure the curtains fit properly and look good, aesthetically. Let’s walk you through your options.
Here's our step-by-step guide to measuring curtains.
Step 1: Decide where your curtain will hang
You need to determine whether you want your curtains to hang from a curtain rod or track. This will affect how you measure.
In Switzerland it’s quite common to have tracks and it’s very easy to attach curtains into them for a seamless look.
If you opt for a rod or pole, you’ll need to make sure it’s installed.
Step 2: Decide the header style
Grommet? Tab top? Pleats?
What are these fancy words? Don’t worry. We have a definitions page on curtain headers.
We can provide the correct fastening depending on which you choose. So, the choice is yours.
Step 3a: Measure curtain length for rod or pole
This is suitable for rod pocket, grommet, tab top, and back tab.
Measure from the top of the curtain rod or track down to where you want the curtains to end.
Step 3b: Measure curtain length for tracks.
Measure from the bottom of the curtain track down to where you want the curtains to end.
Step 4: Various curtain length options
Sill Length: Measure to the windowsill.
Below Sill Length: Measure a few inches below the sill for a more decorative look.
Above Floor Length: Measure a few inches above the floor for a floating effect.
Floor Length: Measure down to where you want the curtains to end. For floor-length curtains, add a +1cm to allow for a slight puddling effect on the floor if desired.
Step 5: Final Checks
Double-check your measurements to ensure accuracy before purchasing curtains.
If you're unsure, it's always best to measure twice to avoid errors. Or with a friend.
By following these steps, you should be able to accurately measure for curtains that fit your windows perfectly and enhance the overall look of your space. We can’t wait to see, don’t forget to send us photos once you’ve installed them.
